Theeba Motorsport battled to the Pro-Am podium in the penultimate race of the 2022 International GT Open, scoring a third-placed finish at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

In qualifying at the Spanish venue, Theeba Motorsport lead driver and founder, Reema Juffali, secured 19th on the grid and enjoyed a competitive start to the 70-minute race.

With a strong getaway, Reema ascended to 16th on the opening lap before a spin for the #92 Herberth Motorsport Porsche of Ralf Bohn caused an early Safety Car.

When the race was resumed in the ninth minute, Reema maintained position although a collision between Murat Cuhradaroglu and Giuseppe Cipriani led to another stoppage.

Reema overtook the #777 Olimp Racing Audi to take 15th on the second restart but lost ground after running wide in Turn Five before pitting to hand over to team-mate, Adam Christodoulou, 40 minutes from the chequered flag.

Adam rejoined the race in 19th overall but recovered to 14th as a variety of race strategies unfolded, while a collision between Steve Jans and Andrew Gilbert, moments after overtaking Stephen Earle, promoted him to 11th.

The Briton next advanced onto the Pro-Am podium by overtaking the #54 SPS Automotive Performance Mercedes of Dexter Müller and took third in class at the chequered flag to take Theeba Motorsport’s fifth podium of the season.

In Their Words

Reema Juffali, Founder &Driver, Theeba Motorsport
“After missing Monza, it feels great to be back racing again today. Overall, I think we missed a couple of opportunities, but I’m very happy to be back on the podium. Qualifying was quite difficult and that left us with some work to do but we recovered well to take eighth overall and third in class. Tomorrow is the final race of the season and I’m going to give it my all so we can end our first year as a team on a high.”
Adam Christodoulou, Driver, Theeba Motorsport
“Today’s race was very stop-start, but it’s great to be back on the podium. After taking third today, we know that there’s still some pace in the car and hopefully, we’ll be able to uncover that performance so we can finish two better tomorrow.”
